New Information In the Murders of Two VT Students
Stern Words From Sheriff

It's been almost two years since two Virginia Tech students from the Lynchburg area were found shot and killed at the Jefferson National Forest in Montgomery County, a short drvie from the college's campus.

Thursday, Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Whitt revealed new information that will help his task force find the killer of Heidi Childs and David Metzler. Most importantly, investigators now have DNA evidence and have identified the murder weapon as a 30-30 caliber rifle. Reportedly stolen from the couple was Heidi's purse which contained her VT lanyard and I.D. card, her cell phone, a camera and a credit card.  

The sheriff spoke at a scheduled press conference and directed these words to the murderer, "We have DNA evidence now. We are aggressively and actively pursuing you. We will not rest until you are apprehended."

Heidi was only 18 and David 19. Their bodies were found at or in their car in the parking lot at the Caldwell Fields section of the Jefferson National Forest.   

A $70,000 reward is offerred for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
