SNOW is on it's way! Anywhere from 1-3 inches is expected in the listening area with the mountainous areas receiving more.

Looks like the first band of snow will arrive in Roanoke around 10 a.m. and in Lynchburg around 11 a.m. A dusting to an inch is expected with the first burst of snow.

A second burst of snow will arrive after noon and bring another inch or two as it moves into the far southwest areas of the state and makes its way into Roanoke, then Bedford and Lynchburg as it crosses the state.

The SNOW will immediately stick because the temperatures have been so cold this week. Last Friday, the temperatures preceding the storm had been warm, and the days of rain had prevented road preparation ahead of the storm. That will not be the case today!

VDOT has been out preparing major roads for the afternoon SNOW. But expect traffic and flight delays...

If you have plans to fly this afternoon, good luck. Seriously, be sure to check with your airline as many flights will be delayed or canceled. Today's winter storm will affect 15 states. Charlotte and Raleigh are expecting a wintry mix, as you can see on the map above.

The Zac Brown Band is scheduled to perform at the Roanoke Civic Center tonight. Check with the Civic Center in late afternoon if you're concerned about the weather. The information number is 540-853-LIVE (540-853-5483).
