A military veteran living in Salem could not believe that management at his apartment complex ordered him to remove a small American flag he has proudly displayed on his patio for months.

Tyler Barge, 22, told TheBlaze that he was deployed to Afghanistan for nine months in 2011, served in the U.S. Army National Guard, and returned home in March of 2012.

And he displays the American Flag "in honor of those who have died fighting for our freedom. I had the privilege of coming home and they didn’t. I try to do what I can to keep their memory alive. I saw the flag flying in Afghanistan, it’d be nice to see it flying here too.”

And fly it will. The staff at Riverwalk Apartments definitely noticed the local and national media attention, and the outpouring of support that Tyler received as people learned that he had been ordered to remove the flag by Monday.

A corporate representative with the Riverwalk complex now says that Tyler will be allowed to fly his American Flag.
