Carrie Underwood is taking on a starring role in NBC's three-hour televised version of The Sound of Music. Carrie will play the leading lady, Maria von Trapp.

Carrie treated us to an opening performance of "The Sound of Music" back in 2007 during a 'Movie Rocks' special on CBS. Carrie was ill at the time.

The Sound of Music features Maria as a nun in an Austrian convent who becomes the governess to seven children after their mother dies. The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers and includes adventure, drama, and a romance between Maria and the children's father.
