Excitement on the track at Phoenix on Sunday at the NASCAR Sprint Cup race! With seven laps to go, Clint Bowyer collided with Jeff Gordon's car sending Gordon into the wall. Three Laps later, Gordon retaliated and slammed into Bowyer's car.
As the race ended and Jeff Gordon exited his car, Bowyer's pit crew was waiting; they jumped him behind pit road! Goron's crew rushed to his aid and an all-out braqwl ensued. [Brawl begins at 1:00 mark]
Gordon blamed his behavior on incidents with Bowyer this year. "It’s just things have gotten escalated over the year and I’ve just had it,’’ Gordon told the Sporting News. Clint’s run into me numerous times, wrecked me and he got into me on the back-straightaway and pretty much ruined our day. I’ve had it and was fed up with it and got him back.’’
Bowyer said the initial contact wasn't intentional. "It makes us look like a bunch of [idiots]. It's pretty embarrassing for a four-time champion and what I consider one of the best the sport has ever seen to act like that. It’s just completely ridiculous."
We'll find out later this week whether NASCAR will impose fines and suspend Gordon and Bowyer.
Both were racing for a spot in the top five. Kevin Harvick won Sunday's race.
