Congratulations to the Lynchburg Hillcats Robbie Hefflinger and the Carolina League All-Stars! They won big over the California League 12-2, in last night's All-Star game in San Jose, California.

Lynchburg's Robbie Hefflinger was the winner of the Homerun Derby before the game, and went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles to seal the victory. Hefflinger was a 7th round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves, and you should get out to Calvin Falwell Field to see him play before he gets called up!

According to a new study, drinking a beer a day reduces the risk of kidney stones by 41 percent.

This is great news for all beer drinkers because kidney stones are brutal. Just ask someone who’s had to deal with them.

Drinking coffee and wine also help, as coffee and wine reduce the risk by between 26 and 33 percent.

Unfortunately, you’re in trouble if you’re a soda junkie. People who drink one or more sugar-sweetened sodas per day are looking at a 23- to 33-percent higher risk of developing the problem. (PasteMagazine.com)

The owners of 7-Eleven stores in New York and Virginia are in big trouble. They've been accused by federal investigators of running a "modern day plantation system" in which they forced undocumented workers to labor for 100 hours a week for slave-like wages.

A total of 10 stores in New York and four in Virginia were seized by federal investigators on Monday after they found undocumented workers from Pakistan were given stolen identities. The owners of the stores were charged with fraud, identity theft and concealing illegal immigrants to work at their stores.

James Hayes, a special agent in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's New York investigations said, "The 7-Eleven franchises seized today will be better known for their big fraud than their Big Gulp."

Never mind the unrest in Turkey, the bombings in Iraq, the elections in Iran and the NSA whistleblower hiding in Hong Kong -- the biggest geo-political issue right now is whether Russian president Vladimir Putin stole New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft's Super Bowl ring.

Kraft met the Russian leader in 2005, and handed the ring to Putin. That's where the stories diverge. A few days after the visit, Kraft told the media that it was a gift. The ring has been housed in an archive of the Kremlin since then, as all valuable gifts to the government are. But a few days ago, Kraft changed his story. He told the New York Post that he was just showing the ring to Putin, but as soon as he handed it over, "he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."

Now a Putin spokesman is firing back. Dmitry Peskov says, "What Mr. Kraft is saying now is weird. I was standing 20 centimeters away from him and Mr. Putin, and saw and heard how Mr. Kraft gave this ring as a gift."

The ring, which is encrusted with 124 diamonds, is worth more than $25,000.

Father’s Day is in a few days and for some of us, it reminds us that we might not have the closest relationship with dear old Dad.

Here are a few ways to be better at communicating with him:

• Get advice – If dad’s not the world’s best communicator, it may help to come to him with something he can help you with. Dads LOVE fixing stuff.
   
• Do something else – If sitting there and staring at each other doesn’t seem quite comfortable, arrange an activity for just the two of you to spend time together.
   
• Plan well – Dad may be less into a heart-to-heart if he’s watching the NBA Finals. Pick your time accordingly. (The Frisky)

It’s not enough to take a vacation anymore.

These days we all really need a vacation away from our phones, laptops and other gadgets. It’s called a “Braincation,” and some resorts are even offering these to help quiet the mind.

When you check into a place that offers a braincation, sometimes you leave your phone at the desk, and other times, you’re just not allowed to use it in public.
