The Blue Ridge Parkway Administration will officially take a look at lowering the speed limit, in the Roanoke area, by ten miles an hour. Last year the Parkway speed limit in Asheville was lowered from 45 to 35 miles an hour for similar reasons. The area being studied is between mile post 110 and 120.

An inmate at a prison in Portugal dug an escape tunnel, but made a mistake in his calculations. The inmate emerged from the ground in a courtyard well within the prison's walls. The inmate also tried to escape a few years ago but failed that time, too.
It wasn't a lane hog slowing traffic in Lansing, Michigan, yesterday morning. It was a porker of an entirely different variety. A wandering pot-bellied pig was attracting the attention of commuters. Police called Janine Stephenson to see if it was her critter. But Stephenson's porker was safe and sound. So, Stephenson helped officers play pig wrangler and catch the animal. The Lansing State Journal reports the pig has been returned safely to its owner.

Dave and Amy Freeman will soon have to get used to sleeping warm and dry. The Minnesota couple is reaching the end of a three-year, nearly 12,000 mile kayak odyssey. The Freemans paddled up the Pacific Coast, across Canada and the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Coast, and down to Florida. They plan to reach Key West around April 6th.
The Freemans tell the Duluth News Tribune they're trying to teach kids about the outdoors. The Freemans are excited by technology that allows them to stream cellphone videos of their adventures to classrooms.
There's today's meaning of quality family time. Wow! A three year journey. Talk about special.
